The 10 Amazing Benefits of Bone Broth Soup and an Heirloom Recipe

Bone Broth Soup Benefits: Have you ever wondered why humans have been eating bone broth since the beginning of time? Your mother likely gave you some of this soup to drink whenever you were sick, and what’s even more probably is that once you had some of it, you felt better. But have you ever wondered why that is? Here’s why:

1.    Heals the gut

Bone broth has gelatin in it (especially if you use oxtail, which is my favorite). This heals the mucus lining in your digestive system and aids in better nutrient digestion.

2.    Reduces pain and inflammation of the joints

Bone broth soup has glucosamine, which stimulates the production of new collagen. It repairs the damage caused in the joints and simultaneously reduces inflammation and pain.

3.    Fights cold, flu, and other infections

Not long ago there was a publication in the “Chest†that listed the findings of a study proving that eating chicken soup during a respiratory infection reduced white blood cells, which cause cold and flu symptoms. This relieves the person stress during the illness.

4.    Helps the formation, growth, and repair of the bones

Phosphorus, magnesium, and calcium in the bone broth soup also help with bone growth, formation, and repair.

5.    Makes skin, nails, and hair look better

Taking collagen and gelatin are natural remedies for gorgeous looking skin, nails, and hair. Bone broth soup has plenty of these.

6.    Healthier than supplements

Instead of taking supplements for bone and tendon care, you can get all the essential minerals and nutrients your body needs right from this broth. I like using oxtail because it is rich in gelatin and offers anti-aging properties.

7.    Saves you from unnecessary expenses

Instead of buying soup at the store, homemade broth is much better and less expensive. Besides, it’s super easy to make, which brings me to…

8.    Super easy to make

I use a crock pot to make bone broth soup because it makes cooking better and easier. All you need to do is throw the ingredients into the pot and let it simmer while you sleep.

9.    Aids sleep and helps calm the mind

The amino acid glycine found in bone broth is very calming and helps you sleep. Stress kills and this can be a good remedy for people experiencing stress.

10. Fights inflammation

The ingredients you add to the broth usually have anti-inflammatory effects and provide ample proline and amino acids.

My Heirloom Bone Broth Soup Recipe

  • Oxtail or Organic Chicken (1 whole)
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 yellow or white onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1-inch ginger root, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon parsley, finely chopped
  • 8 cups water
  • 3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 4-6 celery stalks, finely chopped

Directions

Throw all the ingredients into the crock pot and let it cook on low heat for 8-10 hours. I usually prefer to cook mine just until the meat is tender and falls right off the bone. And that’s it!

I make it just before bed and love to have it hot for breakfast. You can always store the excess broth in a freezer to have it later. Enjoy!
