I Was Doing Everything Right But Nothing Was Working

Rick came in at 74, an active lifelong athlete who had played and taught tennis for decades. He was dealing with long-term wrist pain, limited mobility from multiple injuries, and frustration that his body wasn’t recovering or performing the way it used to.
From the outside, things looked “fine.”
He had always stayed active, eaten a reasonably healthy diet, and pushed through with determination.
But underneath, his system was inflamed and unstable.

He was experiencing:

  • chronic wrist pain for over 15 years (after two surgeries on one wrist)
  • pain and compensation issues with swimming, golf, and daily activities
  • slow recovery from a serious bicycle accident 18 months earlier that broke both arms, a collar bone, and injured both wrists and thumbs
  • loss of muscle mass and 10 pounds he couldn’t afford to lose after the accident
  • lingering inflammation affecting recovery and even causing gastric issues

Working together, we looked at Rick’s body as a connected system not just isolated injuries.

We uncovered:

  • neglected core strength contributing to poor stability and balance
  • inflammation patterns that were slowing recovery from injuries
  • a diet that was “healthy enough” to prevent weight gain but lacking sufficient protein for muscle rebuilding and repair
  • movement compensations from years of wrist issues that affected overall function

Instead of pushing harder or adding complexity, we focused on smart, supportive changes:

  • corrective personal training with emphasis on core work, proper movement patterns, breathing, and building strength without compensation
  • increasing protein intake and adjusting nutrition to support muscle gain and reduce inflammation
  • gentle, consistent guidance that honored his history and current limitations
  • compassionate coaching that included behavioral support, the value of rest, and being kind to himself during the process

Linda partnered with Rick’s existing physical therapy while adding the functional nutrition and training layer that tied everything together.

As his system stabilized and inflammation decreased:

  • wrist pain and compensation issues improved dramatically enough that daily activities and movement felt smoother
  • he regained lost muscle mass and the 10 pounds (in healthy muscle) he needed
  • core strength, balance, and overall confidence increased significantly
  • recovery from injuries accelerated, with better control over gastric inflammation
  • he feels stronger, more stable, and wishes he had started this approach 20 years earlier
  • Rick now moves with greater ease, plays with renewed confidence, and has a level of body awareness and control he didn’t have before.

Rick didn’t need more effort or another generic program.
He needed a structured, full-body approach that addressed inflammation, movement quality, nutrition, and recovery  delivered with compassion and real support.

This is what I see often — active people, even lifelong athletes, doing the right things on the surface but struggling with lingering pain, slow recovery, and stalled progress due to hidden inflammation and imbalances. Once we stabilize the system and provide consistent, personalized guidance, real and lasting improvements happen.

You don’t need to keep pushing through pain or slow recovery on your own.
If you’re dealing with:

  • chronic joint or wrist pain
  • slow recovery from injuries
  • loss of strength or muscle after setbacks
  • inflammation affecting your daily life

This is where real, sustainable progress can start.
